Williamsburg 25th. June 1777
Dear Sir,
I have but a moment to return you my thanks for your friendly and obliging letter. It was impossible for me to avoid feeling the unmerited ill treatment that I had received, but I have now the pleasure to inform you that the two houses have removed all bad impressions by their favorable approbation of my conduct; and they have directed me to return to Congress as one of their Delegates. This letter is a most oppressive business, and therefore unsought by me, but having put my hand to the plough I am bound to go through. Not much important business has yet been done, but they propose to crowd a good deal into this week, at the end of which they talk of rising.
I am affectionately yours.
Richard Henry Lee
