Chantilly 12th. August 1776
Dear Sir,
I inclose you the demand against the public from our Lookouts which much business prevented me from attending to when I was last at Williamsburg. I fancy the Governor & Council will order payment in demand. You have also the determination of the Court Martial in Mr. Simpsons case - You know my sentiments touching how the Court ought to have proceeded - But as it is, I leave it entirely with you whether to summon a General Court Martial, or let the matter rest, - It is at best, a business that will create trouble in calling the Gentlemen from home, & whether any good effects will result I really know not - I wish you and yours happy being sincerely dear Sir
your affectionate friend.
